The Blue Springs Barbecue Blaze-Off is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). Go to www.kcbs.us for the contest rules. Although competition will be held in six categories, only brisket, pork, chicken, and pork ribs will count toward the overall Grand Championship. Cash prizes in the amount of $10,000 will be divided among the first through 10th place finishers in the six categories and a Grand and Reserve Grand Champion. And don’t forget to show your spirit! The team voted “Most Enthusiastic” will also receive an award.

The entries for the dessert category must be assembled onsite.  Any garnishes are acceptable for dessert category. All entries may be presented in the 9”x9” Styrofoam container provided or a single container no larger than 18” round or square and all servings must be identical.  KCBS rules apply for sausage.

BBQ Vendors:

We are no longer doing the Buck – A – Bone ticket sales! In order to make this event more fun and convenient for the public we have decided to not do the ticket sales. We hope this makes it easier for the teams that sell barbeque as well. Any contestant may choose to sell food to the public for the small vendor fee of $250.00. This includes your health license of $50.00.Contestants can sell food of their choice—samples, full plates of BBQ, side dish, dessert —priced at your own choice. We suggest you price samples at $1.00 and sell full plates for $5.00 or $6.00. You may obtain a pamphlet called the Guideline for Temporary Food Facilities from the Environmental Health Division of the Jackson County Health Department by calling 816.881.4634. Meat for selling may not be brought to the contest pre-cooked. The BBQ public sale hours will be Friday 6-11PM and Saturday 10AM-3PM.

KID-Q

The Kid-Q consists of 2 age categories (5-10 years and 11-15 years). There is a $10 charge for this event. KCBS contest rules apply. Contestants are to provide their own contest meat — either beef or chicken (any piece).

Judging time is 11:30AM and awards will be presented at approximately 4PM on Saturday. Ribbons will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each age category and a cash award will be presented to the overall Grand Kid-Q Champion.
